We weaned the lambs this week; twenty, including Winter, have gone to our seasonal grazing along with three adult sheep, Niamh, Juno and Teddy. These three are used to humans and the trailer so are there to “mentor” the lambs.
In a couple of weeks, we’ll spilt the tup lambs off from the females. The remaining eleven ewes and four gimmers, plus Wallace, are still here where I can keep an eye on them. Mastitis is always a threat at weaning.
Wallace has become reintroduced to his mother and has become acquainted with the electric fence. He’s still lame, so still on antibiotics, plus he’s getting turmeric and Devil’s Claw. Nothing to lose, really.
The twelve breeding sheep will be going to their new home around the 24th August. I will be sad to see them go.
