We were delighted to see a lovely article about our yarn in this month’s “Home Farmer” magazine. The lamb with the sore lip is almost back to normal and, thankfully, none of the others seem to be showing signs of any lumps or sores.
Dan’s got the two 2016 yarns on the website and we’re working on yarn kits for the next Forfar Farmers’ Market on 12th November. Looks like we might have a lamb with orf. Orf is a viral infection that causes scabs usually around the mouth, which is what she has. We’re treating it with oxytet […]
We gave the fourteen lambs a dose of wormer this week and all sixteen sheep a dose of flukicide. At this time of year, sheep can die suddenly as a result of acute fasciolosis, caused by young fluke migrating from the gut to the liver. The lambs all look well although one has a scab […]
Sunday 2nd October saw the first Perth Festival of Yarn at the Salutation Hotel. Since we were on holiday but I was keen to support the event, friends Libby and Laura-May, and their mum, Sheila, took a couple of boxes of Rosedean Ryeland yarn, with our new banner and leaflets, along. They had a really […]
Winter, our white fleeced ewe lamb, and Teddy, our wether, had a day out to Angus Farmers’ Market in Forfar on Saturday, where we had yarn for sale. We sold a few balls and there was lots of interest in both the sheep and the yarn. We were planning to go back next month but […]
Sadly, we had to have Wallace put to sleep this week. He relapsed into lameness and, frankly, his spark had gone. It was very peaceful, on a lovely summer day, under his favourite tree. We also said “goodbye” to our twelve breeding ewes and gimmers – that was rather less final as they went off […]
We separated the ewe and tup lambs this week. The tup lambs are now getting a bit frisky – although it’s unlikely that the ewe lambs are in season yet, we’d prefer not to take the chance of out of season pregnancies. It was a bit strange looking at the fourteen ewe lambs and seeing […]
We’ve had some pretty warm weather this week and a light ground frost. The ewes seem to be fine after weaning and have settled down without their lambs. They do suffer in the heat though, even though they are shorn. The lambs are also fine. Winter was pleased to see me the first morning I […]
We weaned the lambs this week; twenty, including Winter, have gone to our seasonal grazing along with three adult sheep, Niamh, Juno and Teddy. These three are used to humans and the trailer so are there to “mentor” the lambs. In a couple of weeks, we’ll spilt the tup lambs off from the females. The […]
Wallace is still lame. He’s now on a 14 day course of antibiotics. Keeping everything crossed for him. We brought the four gimmers and the wether, Teddy, home from our some of our seasonal grazing yesterday. That’s all our sheep home now, probably until we wean the lambs at the beginning of August. We had […]
